In the Big Bang Theory episode " The Guitarist Amplification " (S3E7), Leonard gets upset when Penny allows an ex-boyfriend to stay in her apartment . As the couple argues, Sheldon finds himself unable to handle the conflict due to his childhood history of parental fighting, leading him to try and avoid the situation . The group finally reconciles after Sheldon experiences a minor emotional breakdown, forcing the pair to reconsider their actions .
