The festival, named after the unique orchid that grows primarily in Shusha, was first held in to honor the 100th anniversary of Seyid Shushinski. It was suspended for 29 years following the occupation of Shusha in 1992. Its restoration in 2021 followed the city's liberation on November 8, 2020 , marking what President Ilham Aliyev called a "spiritual revival" for the nation.
