The story follows , a 16-year-old living in a world where two warring witch factions—the Fairborn Witches and the Blood Witches—live secretly among humans. Nathan is the illegitimate son of Marcus Edge , the world’s most notorious and feared Blood Witch.

Because of his lineage, Nathan is kept under strict surveillance by the Council of Fairborn Witches, who fear he will turn out like his father. As his 17th birthday approaches—the deadline to receive his "gift" and full magical powers—Nathan must find his father and drink his blood to survive, or face a gruesome death.
