On the Fourth of July in a small Colorado town, a group of teenagers stages a prank based on the local legend of the Fisherman. When the prank goes tragically wrong and leads to a friend's death, they swear to keep it a secret. A year later, they begin receiving messages saying "I'll always know what you did last summer" and are hunted down one by one.
Released as a direct-to-video sequel, this film is the final chapter of the original trilogy. Unlike the first two films, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., this entry features an entirely new cast and shifts the "Fisherman" killer from a human antagonist to a supernatural entity.
