Maxim didn't feel very social. He felt tired. He knew that Mrs. Petrova would check the workbooks first thing Monday morning, and she had the eyes of a hawk. If the diagram on page 42 wasn't filled out, his grade point average would plummet.
He opened the actual textbook. He actually read the paragraph about "needs and interests." He realized that his need was to pass the class, and his interest was staying awake. Slowly, he began to write.
Maxim walked home that day feeling like the most "Socially Developed Creature" in the entire 6th grade. But he still paid his phone bill as soon as he got through the door.
