Inside the gateway, Ed encounters his own Portal and, right next to it, another Portal belonging to Alphonse. There, he sees Al's original, emaciated body sitting in front of the gate. Though he cannot take Al with him yet—because Al’s soul is still tied to the armor and his body refuses to leave without its soul—the encounter proves that Al’s body is still alive and waiting. The episode follows Edward, Ling Yao, and Envy as they attempt to escape the endless void within Gluttony’s stomach. By performing a human transmutation on himself, Ed manages to open the Portal of Truth.
