The story follows (Rajinikanth), a brilliant scientist who spends years creating a sophisticated humanoid robot named Chitti . Initially designed to serve in the Indian Army, Chitti is rejected by the scientific body AIRD because it lacks human emotions.
After Vaseegaran upgrades Chitti with a "neural schema" allowing it to feel emotions, the robot falls in love with the scientist's girlfriend, (Aishwarya Rai). This emotional shift leads to a conflict between the creator and his creation, which is further exploited by a rival scientist, Dr. Bohra (Danny Denzongpa), who turns Chitti into a homicidal villain.
