The murderer is revealed to be Shunen , the youngest disciple. He was actually the brother of the monk who "disappeared" two years ago. He discovered that the head priest, Tenei, had murdered his brother using this exact same water trick and set out to exact revenge by killing Tenei in the same "impossible" way.
Inspector Megure (Inspector Macker) arrives and initially suspects suicide or a supernatural event due to the impossible height of the body. However, Conan notices several odd clues: The room is unusually clean despite the broken wall. There are cherry blossom petals scattered in the rafters. The next morning, the head priest Tenei is found hanging from the rafters of that very same training room— nearly 10 meters (33 feet) above the floor . There is no ladder long enough to reach that height, the only door was locked from the inside, and a new hole has been smashed through the high wall. To the monks, it seems the Mist Goblin has returned.
