The dance is a variant of the traditional (Uncle’s) horo, which originated in Northern Bulgaria. In recent decades, a specific modern version has become popular in folk dance clubs across Bulgaria and the diaspora. This contemporary iteration was reportedly choreographed by the "Slivnenci" dance club and is often performed to the song “Đipaj” (meaning "Skip!") by the Serbian ensemble Sanja Ilić & Balkanika.
