The gym at Westview High smelled of floor wax and ambition. Leo Vance stood at 5’5”, his sneakers squeaking against the hardwood as he watched the "Twin Towers"—the school’s 6’8” starters—warm up. In the bleachers, they called him "Shorty." On the court, the coaches called him a "defensive specialist," which Leo knew was code for "too small to score."
